Get up close and personal
Have you ever wanted to see what it’s like to be a zoo keeper here at The Fenn Bell Conservation Project? Well this is your chance to find out and spend a day behind the scenes to discover what it is that our keepers do on a daily basis.
Now there’s no such thing as a typical day for any of our zoo keepers, but a typical Keeper For A Day experience may involve the following activities:
- Meet at least 6 of the different species living here
- Delivering feed to some of our animals
- Tour of kitchens and off public areas
- Food preparation for herbivores (fruit and vegetables)
- Food preparation for carnivores (meat and animal products, as well as live insects)
- Cleaning out and poo picking enclosures
- Enclosure refurbishment
- Animal enrichment
But working with animals is rarely typical, so be prepared for anything and don’t forget to bring your camera. There will be lots of photographic opportunities.
£125 per participant for the full day here with us, including refreshments, a commemorative T-shirt and zoo entry for when the experience finishes. £15 per spectator, allowing additional family members or friends to spend the day with you. Gift vouchers also available – the recipient can select their own date. Please note that vouchers are only sent electronically.
Availability for the Keeper For A Day Experience is limited so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
This experience is only available for adults and children over the age of 12 years old, however children aged between 12 and 15 years old must be accompanied by a spectating parent or guardian. Please note, spectators are not allowed to participate in any experiences. Any additional friends or family can purchase zoo tickets at the normal rate and can observe from public areas during the zoo’s regular opening hours. This experience lasts for approximately 5 ½ hours starting at 9.30am.
Regrettably certain guests will be unable to take part including those with relevant phobias, known allergies, pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals.
Whilst every effort is made to accommodate those with a disability or learning difficulty, due to practicality and health and safety this cannot always be achieved, and it is advised that you contact us for advice prior to purchasing an experience or voucher.
